Bear tracks: indicators of wildness

An Extraordinary Opportunity

Thanks to the work of Gustavus residents and The Nature Conservancy and the cooperation of the Mental Health Trust Land Office, you have an extraordinary opportunity to give future Icy Strait residents and visitors the open space and wildlife that we enjoy today. As Gustavus naturalist and Alaska Board of Game member Greg Streveler has said, this "... will probably be the most significant single action for conserving Gustavus's future I'll see in my lifetime." For details, see A Strategy for Mental Health Trust Lands in Gustavus.

You can make a difference.

To make the Gustavus Land Legacy vision a reality, we need to raise about four million dollars. If you care about wildlife and open space in Gustavus and Icy Strait we urge you to take full advantage of this opportunity by giving as much as you can to help purchase and manage Mental Health Trust Lands in Gustavus.

Contributions are tax-deductible. You will receive a thank-you letter and receipt from The Nature Conservancy. If you are in a position to make a sizable donation, The Nature Conservancy can help with wills, living trusts, or other creative ways to make a real difference while minimizing your tax liability.

Here's How.

Make your check payable to The Nature Conservancy. In the memo line, write Gustavus Land Legacy. Mail it to

Gustavus Land Legacy
PO Box 62
Gustavus, AK  99826

Note: The Nature Conservancy can also take donations by credit card and in non-cash forms.

If you'd like to know more about the project and how you can help, please call GLL Executive Director Hank Lentfer at (907) 697-2221.

Thank You.

Gustavus skier thanks you!
